Eighth Annual Interfaith Tree of Life Conference on Israel and Palestine, November 3 and 4, Old Lyme, CT.
The Eighth Annual Interfaith Tree of Life Conference on Israel and Palestine, organized by the Tree of Life Educational Fund, will be held at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, November 3 and 4, 2012.
The conference will open with Tree of Life Concert, Saturday, November 3, 5:30 p.m., featuring internationally acclaimed Syrian composer and pianist, Malek Jandali. Mr. Jandali will be joined by young Palestinian musicians from both the West Bank and the Berklee College of Music. All proceeds will benefit victims of the war in Syria through the Syrian Sunrise Foundation.
A Middle Eastern dinner will follow, sponsored by the Islamic Center of New London and the Connecticut Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Events will continue on Sunday, November 4, from 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. with a session entitled Voices of Conscience and Hope, the special focus of which will be “Education – How Can We Embrace our Common Humanity?” Speakers from Israel, the occupied territories and the U.S., who recognize the critical importance of education and have dared to reach out across the great divide, will share their inspiring personal stories and compelling visions of a more peaceful world. Refreshments and an information/crafts bazaar will follow.
