the original artwork of James Gurney, the author and illustrator of Dinotopia, an illustrated book series that tells the story of an island where humans and sentient dinosaurs live together in harmony.
On view through February 2, the exhibition brings together paintings from Gurney’s well-loved books A Land Apart From Time, The World Beneath, Journey to Chandara, and First Flight, along with sketches and maquettes from Gurney’s studio. Dinosaur specimens from the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, including a Deinonychus skull and a Tyrannosaurus tooth, will complement the paintings and illuminate the science behind Gurney’s art. The Clinton Tree Committee is seeking artwork for the Seventh Annual Art Show. There will be a new theme this year: THE TREES OF CONNECTICUT. Artists are encouraged to submit paintings and photographs of their favorite Connecticut trees. Submissions must be original artwork and be ready to hang. A prize will be awarded to the work voted “People’s Choice “.
The show will be held at the Henry Carter Hull Library, 10 Killingworth Turnpike, Clinton. It will run from November 1 – November 30.
The mission of the Clinton Tree Committee is to protect our valuable urban forest, and to educate Clinton residents about the planting and care of trees. The tree ordinance approved in 1998, established the guidelines for the planting, maintenance and removal of town trees.

The Connecticut River Museum, the Essex Board of Trade, and the Essex Historical Society combine to present this annual event that includes a traditional, lantern-lit carol stroll down Main Street where spectators are invited to bring their own lanterns or flashlights and join in with the Sailing Masters of 1812 Fife and Drum Corps and a parade of antique cars. The stroll steps off at 4:30 pm at the Essex Town Hall on West Avenue and ends at the Connecticut River Museum with a parade of vessels dressed out in holiday lights and passing in review along the Connecticut River. Santa and his elves will arrive by one of the parade boats for visits with children on the lawn of the Museum. The event rain date is Sunday, December 2.

The family-friendly Holiday Train Show exhibit is back at the Connecticut River Museum in Essex for its nineteenth year of fun for all ages. Train artist Steve Cryan has worked his magic again with more trains, new scenery, and lots of surprises to be found in the fully operational 26-foot model train layout. Visitors are challenged to find a scavenger list of various objects hidden within the settings while the very young can get hands-on at the expanded American Flyer and Lionel train layout designed for toddler size viewing. The exhibit is a true locomotive extravaganza and a perfect outing for train fans and all who are young at heart. Sponsored by Liberty Bank, The Safety Zone and Valley Courier, the exhibit runs through February 10, 2013.

The CT YULETIDE CAROLERS will celebrate the start of the holiday season with a concert of carols. Victorian carolers will fill the winter air with the bright sounds of the season, singing traditional and contemporary Christmas music a capella in 4-part harmony to bring holiday cheer to young and old alike.
The Connecticut Yuletide Carolers was formed in 2006 by Guilford residents Michael and Lori Cartwright. Their inaugural season consisted of 6 singers and 12 performances; the group has grown to 24 singers from all along the shoreline making over 40 performances throughout Connecticut and New England.

The group appeared last year on WFSB’s “Better Connecticut” program and was featured in a television commercial for Big Y World Class Market. They have performed at holiday festivals, wedding receptions, libraries, shopping centers, corporate and private home parties, senior residences, and museums.
