Our every changing exhibits features original paintings and sculpture by celebrated artists from near and far including gallery favorites, Sarah Stifler Lucas, Christopher Zhang, Domine Vescera Ragosta, S. Chandler Kissell and Del-Bourree Bach. Now in our 9th season, we look forward to welcoming new and old friends!

THE GALLERY AT FIREHOUSE SQUARE is presenting a special exhibition depicting the personal side of homelessness through the lens of photographer Alex Matthiessen and the palette of oil painter Elisabeth McGinn. Entitled “Right Next Door: Images of the Homeless and Those Who Help Them,” the exhibit features the artwork of two women, Alex and Elisabeth, who met as soup kitchen volunteers and share a deep belief in the need to give back. The show will also include poems and artwork created by some of the homeless subjects that Alex and Elisabeth have photographed and painted over the years. All artwork in the exhibit will be for sale, with 100% of the proceeds donated to The Homeless Hospitality Center of New London and St. Vincent de Paul Place in Norwich.

Third annual Girl Scout Cookies for Heroes event will be held March 10, 2013 at Groton Autozone on Route 12 from 10:00-2:00. Customers have the opportunity to support Girl Scouting and Military Personal by purchasing Girl Scout Cookies that will be donated to military serving here in Groton and overseas. Last year Groton donated 50 boxes to say thank you to our military. Come help the girls in the Groton Service Unit meet their goal to collect 100 boxes.

Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore, CT, Inc. is pleased to team up with the Essex Rotary for its Fifth Annual Scrabble Scramble Tournament on Sunday, March 10, 2:30-5:00pm at Essex Meadows, 30 Bokum Road, Essex. Tables of four people will play cooperatively on a single scrabble board to best other tables. This isn’t just another scrabble tournament. You can bribe the Word Judge to get a peek at the dictionary or buy extra tiles to make the triple score word you need to win! Prizes will be awarded to tables with the highest score in each of two rounds as well as an overall winner. Players can join the fun for $25 per person and coffee and snacks will be provided.
