This summer, New London Maritime Society and the City of New London join to celebrate the storied sentinels that keep our waters safe. Across 19 weeks of lighthouse talks, films, and exhibitions, boat and segway tours, we bring visitors up close and inside of some of the harborís most-historic beacons. Then, on August 1 beginning with the Shennecossett Lighthouse Regatta, through August 9 and ending with our Peopleís Lighthouse Gala and free performances of Nimble Arts Circus, we present a special week dedicated to lighthouses. The highlight of the week is on August 6: the formal ownership conveyance of Ledge Lighthouse to New London Maritime Society and the stewardship of the Ledge Light Foundation from the US Coast Guard and federal government. This act makes the Maritime Society owners of the three major beacons leading into this historic port, an unprecedented achievement. Go to nlmaritimesociety.org to see all the events, take part in special visitor packages, and then get on the water and visit the lighthouses!
